Advice on entry to the UK and visas

To attend AERC2024 from outside the UK you will enter the UK as a "Standard Visitor on business", which allows you to attend a conference (and many other things) within a visit of up to six months. Most EU, EEA and Swiss citizens do not need a visa for this, and neither do many other nationalities, such as US, Japan or Australia. Unfortunately some nationalities will require a visa to enter the UK as a "Standard Visitor on business". In all cases you can check whether you need a visa at:

For this check, please select your nationality, and then "Work, academic visit or business" and "6 months or less".

The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you travel. We are able to provide invitation letters confirming conference registration and acceptance of any abstracts for which you are the main presenter.
