Rheology Course
Before AERC 2018, on Monday (April 16) and Tuesday (April 17), the rheology course on "Particles, Active Matter, Confinement and Viscoelasticity: The Microfluidic Playground" will take place.
The school will be hosted by the "Società di Scienze, Lettere e Arti di Napoli" in the historical center, Via Mezzocannone 8 - 80134 Napoli.

Lecturers:
Prof. Pier Luca Maffettone
Pier Luca Maffettone graduated from the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Naples Federico II under the supervision of Prof. Pino Marrucci, and received his Ph.D from the same University in 1993 under the supervision of Prof. Gianni Astarita. After research visits at Stanford University and at the University of Delaware, he became Assistant Professor at the University of Naples Federico II in 1994. Four years later he was hired as Associate Professor at the Politecnico di Torino. In 2005 he returned to the University of Naples Federico II as Full Professor at the Department of Chemical, Materials and Production Engineering, where he is head of the department since 2013. He is a member at large of the Executive Committee of the European Society of Rheology and member of the editorial board of Rheological Acta and of Journal Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics. His research interests are on CFD, complex fluids modeling, microfluidics, rheology of suspensions, liquid crystals, polymer blends and emulsions.
Prof. Amy Shen
Amy Shen is a professor in Micro/Bio/Nanofluidics Unit at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology in Japan. She was a faculty member in Mechanical Engineering at University of Washington before moving to Japan in 2014. Amy's research is focused on rheology, fluid manipulations and viscoelastic instabilities at small length scales, with applications in micro/nanofluidics and biosensors. Amy is a Member-at-Large of the SoR Executive Committee (2018-2020), an honor member of Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Tau Sigma. Amy received Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award in 2003 and the National Science Foundation's CAREER Award in 2007. Amy is also a Fulbright Scholar in 2013.
Prof. Julia Yeomans
Julia Yeomans is a Professor of Physics at the University of Oxford and Pauline Chan Fellow at St Hilda’s College. Her research is in theoretical and computational physics, particularly statistical physics, soft condensed matter and biophysics. Among her current interests are active systems, liquid crystals and the interactions of fluids with structured surfaces. She is a recipient of the P-G. de Gennes Lecture Prize and a Fellow of the Royal Society. Julia has four daughters and enjoys hiking, orienteering and tango.
