Conference Venue

The AERC 2026 will be held at the Auditorium Maximum Jagiellonian University in Kraków

Collegium Maximum is a prominent building of the Jagiellonian University, located at 33 Krupnicza Street, Kraków. It is situated in the heart of Kraków, close to the historic Old Town. It will take approximately 10 minutes on foot from the Main Market Square (Rynek Główny), one of the most iconic landmarks in Kraków. Krupnicza Street is a well-known street in the city center, near other university buildings like Collegium Paderevianum. The area is vibrant, with a mix of academic buildings, historic sites, and cultural attractions. Nearby landmarks include:

  • AGH University of Science and Technology (across Aleja Mickiewicza).
  • National Museum in Kraków (Muzeum Narodowe), a short walk away.
  • Błonia Park and Jordan Park, which are within 10–15 minutes on foot.

The central location makes it easily accessible by foot, public transport, or car, though parking in the city center can be challenging due to limited spaces and traffic restrictions.
Kraków has a well-developed public transportation system operated by MPK, consisting of trams and buses that share a unified ticket system. Below are the main options to reach Collegium Maximum using public transport.

1. From Kraków Główny (Main Railway Station) or Dworzec MDA (Regional Bus Station)

Bus

Lines: Take bus 179 (from stop Dworzec Główny Zachód – Galeria) or 292 (from stop Dworzec Główny Wschód).

Get off at the AGH/UR 2 bus stop, located near the AGH University of Science and Technology.

Walking: From the AGH/UR 2 stop, cross Aleja Mickiewicza (Adam Mickiewicz Avenue) and walk approximately 300 meters along Krupnicza Street to reach Collegium Maximum (about 5 minutes on foot).

Tram

Lines: Take tram lines such as 4, 8, 13, 14, or 24 from stops near the railway station (e.g., Dworzec Główny or Teatr Słowackiego). Get off at the Teatr Bagatela or Muzeum Narodowe.

Walking: From Teatr Bagatela (closer, ~5-minute walk), head west along Karmelicka Street, then turn left onto Krupnicza Street to reach Collegium Maximum. From Muzeum Narodowe, walk north along Aleja Mickiewicza and turn right onto Krupnicza (~7–10 minutes).

Travel Time: Approximately 10–15 minutes by bus or tram, plus 5–7 minutes walking.

2. From Kraków-Balice Airport

Train

Take the SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska) train from Kraków Airport to Kraków Główny (Main Railway Station). The journey takes about 17–20 minutes, with trains running every 30–60 minutes. Tickets cost approximately 9 PLN (normal) or 4.50 PLN (reduced).

From Kraków Główny, follow the bus or tram to reach Collegium Maximum (instructions above).

Bus

Take bus 208 or 252 (daytime) or 902 (night) from the airport to the city center. These buses stop at Dworzec Główny Wschód or Jubilat (near Muzeum Narodowe).

From Jubilat, take tram 1, 2, or 6 to Teatr Bagatela or walk directly (~10–15 minutes) north along Aleja Mickiewicza and turn right onto Krupnicza Street.

Travel Time: Approximately 30–40 minutes total (train/bus + tram/walk).

Taxi

Taxis or rideshare apps like Uber or Bolt are also convenient from the airport, taking about 20–25 minutes to reach Krupnicza Street (~50–70 PLN).

3. From Other Parts of Kraków

Where to Buy

Ticket machines: Located at most tram/bus stops and inside vehicles. They offer English language options and accept card payments (though not always, so carry some cash).
Jak Dojade app: Allows ticket purchases via smartphone.
From drivers: Possible in some buses/trams, but cash-only and more expensive.

In Kraków trams and buses, QR codes are part of the mobile ticketing system.
Location: QR codes are placed near the doors or windows inside the vehicles.
Use: After buying a ticket in an app (e.g. iMKA, Jakdojade, mPay, SkyCash), passengers activate the ticket and scan the QR code when entering.
Function: The QR code confirms the start of the journey and links the ticket to a specific ride.
Inspection: Ticket controllers verify validity directly on the passenger’s phone.
The QR code itself is not the ticket, but a way to register and validate mobile tickets.

Don’t Forget to Validate Your Ticket! Validation: Tickets must be validated immediately upon boarding using a small yellow or orange box inside trams/buses.

Walking as an Alternative
Given Collegium Maximum’s central location, walking is often the easiest option if you’re already in the Old Town or near the Main Market Square:
From Main Market Square: Walk west along Szewska Street, continue onto Karmelicka Street, and turn left onto Krupnicza Street. The walk takes ~10 minutes (800 meters).

Practical Tips
- Check Schedules: Tram and bus schedules can vary, especially at night. Use Jak Dojade or https://mpk.krakow.pl/en/timetables
Crowds and Traffic: The city center can be busy, especially during peak hours (7–9 AM, 3–6 PM). Allow extra time for transfers.
Accessibility: Trams and buses in Kraków are generally accessible, with low-floor vehicles available on many routes. The AGH and Teatr Bagatela stops are well-equipped for those with mobility needs.
